Dr Ron Beyers

Dr Ron Beyers has 27 years of teaching Science, Biology, Mathematics, Computer Science and Technology Education at a high school level. In 2006 he took up the challenge of initiating a pipeline in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Innovation (STEMI) with the appointment to the African Advanced Institute for Information and Communications Technologies commonly referred to as the Meraka Institute at the CSIR in Pretoria. Here he combined a decade of research in the classroom together with experience gained from producing a world record beating team for the Formula One in Schools, a innovative solution for virtual interactive classrooms and several conference papers, into a PhD thesis entitled "Promoting Human Capital Development through ICT Creativity and Innovation". The result of 3 years at Meraka was the formation of the organisation which has become known as the Young Engineers and Scientists of Africa (YESA). He is also busy with a Post Doctoral Fellowship through the North West University focusing on the FabKids in FabLabs and the use of MXit to promote STEMI to learners across Africa.
