Young Engineers and Scientists of Africa

Creating a Pipeline for Science, Technology, Engineering, mathematics and Innovation

  • Establishment of a National Delivery vehicle
YESA will be driven by the commitment to establish a national delivery vehicle for the promotion of all the interventions associated with it. This will include establishing an organization in the most appropriate format for the effective delivery of it’s services under licience from the CSIR.
  • Building capacity for the Organization
Priority must be given to the recruitment of top quality staff who can make a significant difference to the various interventions with a broad range of skills, taking into consideration BEE opportunities wherever possible.
  • Forging further relationships with research institution
YESA will strive to retain a strong working relationship with Meraka to facilitate research of existing and future interventions across the skills continuum. Further relationships will be sought with local and international university in the pursuit of knowledge and experience as well as export opportunities.
  • Implementing the YESA Passport
YESA will introduce and manage a national database designed to to monitor and promote the development of key skills in science, engineering and technology. This will include all national interventions for competitions and Olympiads which are focused on science, engineering and technology Grades 1 - PhD.
  • Promoting creativity and innovation while identifying talent
YESA operates in the niche area of promoting creativity and innovation while searching for talent. The introduction of the YESA passport will go a long way to assessing the impact of such interventions while providing mechanisms to tag learners who are active across a broad range of interventions.
  • Advocacy for national e-Skills interventions
Priority will be given to the promotion of e-skills beyond the level of computer literacy to develop more effective ICT users and practitioners from an early age in pursuit of building the information society and knowledge economy.
  • Youth Development
YESA will continue to play a role in the holistic development of our youth through promoting a broad range of 21st century skills.
  • Accessibility of interventions to all schools across South Africa
YESA render services to both urban and rural communities with a greater emphasis on previously disadvantaged groups. Aspects of digital inclusion will be explored through the realization of the ‘hub school concept’ to ensure sustainability of a layered approach to e-health and e-education solutions.
  • Nurturing Strategic Partnerships
YESA’s main aim is to initiate and grow a healthy SET pipeline in order to identify and nurture learners with talent which can be achieved through a strong network of actively engaged partners.
  • Awareness of strategic national policies and strategies
Strategic direction for YESA should take full cognisance of other national initiative, policies and strategies from a broad range of government departments.
The following 10 point plan is to be used to inform the Strategic Plan of the YESA, which represents the priorities to be addressed in transforming the intervention from a Meraka incubated project to a fully fledged national delivery vehicle. These priorities are based on the experience gained since 2006.
