{"id":74,"date":"2022-11-04T07:31:27","date_gmt":"2022-11-04T07:31:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yesa.org.za\/microbit\/?page_id=74"},"modified":"2022-11-04T07:33:20","modified_gmt":"2022-11-04T07:33:20","slug":"road-safety","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/yesa.org.za\/microbit\/competition\/road-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"Road Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Microbit Robot Challenge<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Road Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-77 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/yesa.org.za\/microbit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Road-Safety-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"390\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yesa.org.za\/microbit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Road-Safety-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/yesa.org.za\/microbit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Road-Safety-1024x717.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/yesa.org.za\/microbit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Road-Safety-768x538.jpg 768w, https:\/\/yesa.org.za\/microbit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Road-Safety-1536x1075.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/yesa.org.za\/microbit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Road-Safety-2048x1434.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 390px) 100vw, 390px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Emphasis should be placed on<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Introduction to the use of the Microbit in relation to a Robot<\/li>\n<li>Coding the Microbit Robot<\/li>\n<li>Controlling variables of\n<ul>\n<li>Speed and Time to determine Distance and Direction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Reusing code<\/li>\n<li>Defining functions<\/li>\n<li>Learning by doing<\/li>\n<li>Competing in teams<\/li>\n<li>21<sup>st<\/sup> century skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Equipment<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Road Safety Mat<\/li>\n<li>Microbit Robot \u2013 per group<\/li>\n<li>Computer \/ Laptop \/ Cell Phone\n<ol>\n<li>Installed \/ access to Makecode for Microbit<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>General Instructions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Teams are to start in the top left hand corner and move a block into the designated area indicated<\/li>\n<li>Either use\n<ol>\n<li>Line following or<\/li>\n<li>Straight line to point 3<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Stop at the pedestrian crossing<\/li>\n<li>Visit your friend by parking in the Garage and pausing for 5 seconds<\/li>\n<li>Follow the road to the Police Checkpoint<\/li>\n<li>Your lights and sensors will be checked\n<ol>\n<li>LEDs<\/li>\n<li>LED Screen<\/li>\n<li>Under vehicle lights<\/li>\n<li>Light Level sensor<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Follow the road but unfortunately you have an accident as you bump into a solid wall.\n<ol>\n<li>Display the accelerometer sensor reading at point of impact<\/li>\n<li>Use your emergency LED to warn other traffic of the dangerous situation<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>A vehicle has broken down in the middle of the road and needs to be pushed into the destination point 9.<\/li>\n<li>Park within the designated finish area to complete the challenge.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Calibration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A ruler and a protractor have been printed onto the maps.
