The Invention of the Fuel Cell
In 1839 Sir William Grove invented the first fuel by splitting water (Electrolysis) into hydrogen and oxygen putting energy into the system in the form of an electric current. He assumed that if he could reverse the reaction of combining Hydrogen and Oxygen he could get water, some heat and electricity out.
