Group 1 Eunice FabLab
We were chosen as group 1 because we are the COOLEST group here today (modest, i know)…
Today was expected to be an outstanding experience of designing and making models via printing and constructing and we looked so forward to interpreting and incorperating our ideas into 3-D figures. Fortunately it turned out to be so much more than just technical drawing. It became a lesson that none of us wouldve learnt if it wasnt for a group effort and communication skills.
Today taught us the most increddible things: we learnt that Mathematics and Technology at school really isnt for nothing, it helps you create, interpret and visualise final results of proportions and measurements. It let us make use of different programmes and software and it made us realise that there is so much more depth in art than what we thought the limit was. Knowledge really is power.
FabLab has given us the opportunity to create, evalu
ate, and re-create without the expence of tools and materials. Allowing us to make many, many mistakes, over and over again and not feel bad about it.
Thank you for the opportunity to do this, to create something so simple while expanding our level of creativity and broadening our horizons as to do with career choices in the very near future…

Groep 2 Eunice
FAB lAB:
Ons dag het vroeg begin met ‘n inligende praatjie van Dr. Ron Beyers. Daars was vinnig ‘n klomp vrae gevra en vir ons gese die ervaaring is wat ons van dit maak. Ons was rofweg verduidelik wat van ons verwag sal word en ons moes onself deel in groepies van 4 en elke lid het ‘n rol gekry: Babette was die groep leier, Denicke die ontwerper, Nini die konstruksie regiseer en Ek die media regiseer.
Ons het lank en hard aan temas gedink en ons het uiteindelik op die tema “Evolve” besluit en ‘n dinosorus as ons projek aangevat.
Ons beplanning was uitputend aangesien ons al vier baie goeie vriende is en ons almal het baie sterk persoonlikhede. Maar ons was ingelig dat meisies soms sukkel om saam te werk.
Die ervaarin was baie uitdaagend en bietjie verstreeredn, maar die geboorte van ons liefling ‘Adam’ was verseker al die kopkrap werd.
Fab Lab het ons definitief in ‘n postiewe en creatiewe rigtig gedryf**

Group 3
a group of anxious young Eunice (You-Knee-See) art students made their way downtown to a place they could not find… Once their very confused bus driver passed a sign, hidden behind a tree, a Eunice (You-Knee-See) girl screamed “I think that’s it!”, “What’s it?” the rest of us replied… “Its the FABLAB!!”, “how do you know?” said we… still confused. “Its written on the sign!, behind the tree!”… And as we turned into that parking lot… we excitedly jumped out the bus… too excited in fact, as it caught the attention of the security guard. This was only one of the many awkward moments that welcomed us to this event. We were told to wait outside the fuming building. A gray haired man stepped out and gave us an ominous look… this was not at all what we expected. We were looking forward to a skinny, blond, middle aged lady with an Afrikaans accent who anxious to teach us all about design. Guess not.
This was turning out to be something surprisingly unexpected. The man introduced himself as Ron, and gave us a speech that really changed our lives and our outlook on life. He waffled along and told us that he was rude… true. He told us that we had to invest in our own mental capital, realize the potential we all have in changing the world and that we shouldn’t indoctrinate ourselves
After the valuable life lesson, we were introduced to the rest of the crew who were more than willing to share their knowledge concerning technology and design. We were given booklets and told to split into four,
then given a quick reminder to be nice to each other since ladies don’t get along all too well when doing teamwork. After deciding on our group and split into roles… we lost a valuable team member due to unforeseen nausea (don’t worry, there were no obscene events). Our team then had to compensate and go the extra mile… only to get stuck in the mud.
Our group’s theme was ‘Casino’ and we originally thought of designing a slot machine that would act as a dispenser for either matches or business cards… an epic fail in design- to say the least. We then changed our design to a Roulette table which watered down into a design of a spinning top.
This breakthrough only occurred three hours after we had started designing and at the end we were left quite exasperated. Then we had a break.
After break, we were less hungry and more energetic. This spurred us on to designing our spinning top. After much ‘guess’timation, deliberation, frustration and calculations our design was sent to the laser printer. We waited in anticipation to see whether our spinning top was successful… AND IT WAS!
We were proud, and relieved. We also felt a whole heck smarter because we designed and actually made our own spinning top. This encouraged us to look into engineering careers and we left realizing our potential.
By the way, our spinning top is in fact multi-purpose. It is a childrens toy, an orange squeezer, and ice cream or candle holder!!!
GROUP 4
Once upon a time there was four Eunice girls who had no means of transport. They walked and hiked and ran till they no longer could! They came together and threw their only R5 into the wishing well. When they were just about to give up a man with a grey beard who goes by the name ‘rondloper’ appeared and promised them of making the front of the queue to ‘success’ if
they follow him…
They obeyed instantly and discovered a magical land called fablab! Here they could dream big as the sky is the limit! Their only desire was to get a pair of wheels and so they set off to work, recieving assistance from the gigantic helping elves.
Through trial and error and cheap mistakes they finally have a model for show… the pumpkin335i convertable.
Our experience through this day was amazing! We realised that designing anything requires all your attention and brain power. The things you thought of and changed to fit perfectly don’t always come out the way you planned.Your ideas and the person’s next to you is never the same and that in order to achieve a satisfying result you must combine these ideas and improve on them.
After a long day working on their model they are rewarded by driving their pumpkin 335i convertable home, in luxary, and fell asleep dreaming of the wonderful land called fablab.
