Kimberley – 25/10/11

FabLab User Group 1
On 24th of October 2011 we were invited to attend a workshop hosted by AMTS FABLAB which is a science and technological initiative of the Northern Cape Department of Science and Technology run in partnership with NIHE. Dr Ron Beyers of the Young Engineers and Scientists of Africa was the host facilitator, who introduced us to the Torch mate System.
Bird house: We have done a three dimensional design of a bird house based on a gear and learned how to use the Torch Mate System by configuring our design into code and transferred the design to the torch mate program which enables you to cut out your design. We were also shown how to compensate for program errors by reducing the contours of the whole design.
We also learned that group work is very important that is why we first brainstormed our design and got different views of what do we think of when we hear or see the word technology and agreed to design something with a gear on it. given the budget of 600mm and 400mm we were able to cover it all. MAN WAS THE GROUP MANAGER WHO MANAGED EVERY ACCODINLY AND I DINEO WAS THE WRITTER

The FABLAB manager Mr Thato Riet invited the Galeshewe Maths-Science and Technology Youth Initiative (GIM-STY) members to attended a Workshop on the 24 October 2011 at Kimberley FABLAB. The training was conducted by Dr Ron Beyers Young Engineers and Scientists of Africa.
He training us on how to use open office software connected to various machineries, especially the Cutting touch machine. We had experienced a lot of difficulties how to draw accurate by using a computer, but applying our numeracy skills. Since we got Dr Ron for giving us skills how to use our own mind or ideas to develop new products to be tested for the market. We where very fascinated by understanding the whole concept of innovation and creativity. We had embarked on designing a bird nest\house, but we first needed to conceptualise our ideas together and we use a free hand drawing by using a pencil & paper.
We learned that : Group work and you need a basic mathematical skills to be able to draw a sketch.

We learn how to design c-saw and it was exciting and easy and we loved it so much the first time when we design it we thought it was difficult but it was not difficult. We will like to do more about designing .The people who helped us they were very kind, friendly and pationce for us thank you very much

The experience was very exciting and fun. We learnt a lot and we can teach others at school.
It will be very exciting for others to learn about what we did at the fablab. When the teachers give us activities to do like building houses,we will know where to go. We enjoyed being here. We were shown how to cut out things that we have designed. Thanks to our superviser Mr Ron and the others. We learnt how to work with the keyboard ,mouse and the laserprinters

Introduction On the 24 and 25 of October 2011 we were in Science & Technology workshops.
We learnt about graphic design and how to lead to keep things simple .We made a vase and the experience was a lot more fun because our group was interesting to work with and it was enjoyable .Sometimes peoples should come at the Lab.Children could come to fablab. We build anything and we were shown how to cut things we have drawn on the computer

Introduction : we were having at fablab
We make a table and we leant about materials how to work with the shapes and design our table .We learnt about different shapes in mathematics .When we grow we will know how to design and becoming a graphic designer.
