Clean Energy Eduction – Potchefstroom

It is good to back on the road interacting with learners on a different level. It was a chilly start to a Monday morning having flown into OR Tambo the evening before. 900 Handbooks had been collected from Johannesburg where this load filled the back seat of the hired car.

The day started with an assembly for the Grades 8 and 9 with the customary singing as one voice in an awe inspiring way giving me goose bumps on my arms every time. I find it hard to resist the harmonizing of the girls and boys sharing their joy for life. It reminded me of my sessions in Cofimvaba where I always requested the learners to sign to me as a way of appreciation. Lydia Maputle, the Natural Science Subject Specialist from the North West Education Department in the Potchefstroom District, joined me before the start of the demonstration. She did a sterling job with the organisation with permission from the Director of Education.

The learners were very reserved but soon warmed to the many challenges that I presented them with. Nobody managed to solve the Wind Turbine challenge but I am inspired by their enthusiasm.

Due to the large number of learners in the hall the solar experiment was not demonstrated fully.
