Rustenburg, Geelhout Secondary, 16 April 2018

Geelhout Secondary, Rustenburg, 16 April 2018 (339 Learners)

And so the third year of the Clean Energy Program began with a successful visit to Geelhout Secondary School in Rustenburg. The original request was for the Grade 9 learners but when we looked again there were 350 Grade 8 and 9 learners. To make matter worse workers attending to the paving were busy with a pneumatic roller making it impossible to continue.

Despite the large numbers good connections were made with many learners. It did not take long for the Wind Turbine to be solved much to the joy of many of the learners. The exciting news was that Princes had an informal interview with one of the learners who was undecided about his career, favoring Law. After the demonstration he was convinced that Science was a distinct possibility. At the end there were also a number of girls who showed an interest in participating in the competition – exciting news

Having teachers in attendance made a significant difference. The technology teacher was also in attendance and it was suggested that she set the first phase of the competition as a class assignment and the best designs are then selected to participate in the competition. An interesting possibility.

A visit to Biki Bini Bos Lodge outside Rustenburg was certainly a gem as it was a far cry from the rabbit warrens of staying in a hotel. I will certainly revisit this place in the near future as often as possible.
