Potchefstroom Boys High – 16-05-17
Clean Energy Education – Potchefstroom
The pressure was on to avoid learners having to deal with transport issues so Lydia and I moved to Potchefstroom Boys High early and were given the Sports Club House next to the rugby field. The learners were restless form the start but soon settled down and interacted positively to the question presented.
There were two boys who excelled and I am confident that these brief moments of contact will inspire them to go further. I personally believe that this is the essence of these sorts of programs. Assuming that at least 2 learners are identified out of 100 per school this would mean at least 18 learners who could be tagged as having the potential to go further. The intention of this round was to target up to 30 schools give a total of 60 learners who could be channelled into a more advanced program. This would increase the return on investment should these learners be channelled into bursary programs. Proven talent is more beneficial than merely an interest in a specific field and good marks in Mathematics and Physical Science.
The setting of this school is quite majestic with sprawling sports field and very historic buildings steeped in tradition. The privilege of making an entry into the school’s log book was immense as some of the entries dated back to the early 1900’s.
