5.Fredledwaba 25-05
Grade 9 (95)
Today was a case of mistaken identity. In preparing for the day I had checked the maps on my phone for the school E D L Rampola and worked out my route. On arrival there was no name board as was customary in most schools sponsored by a particular organisation. My usual procedure is to ask for the school principal to introduce myself and to make the necessary arrangements.
Unfortunately the principal was not present and the HOD for science allowed me to identify an area and to proceed with the demonstration. The learners responded as most other schools do although nobody managed to come up with an explanation for the turbine blades despite numerous suggestions of moving the fan around.
On wrapping up and collecting the questionnaires I noticed that the principal had returned and waited outside his office to say goodbye. When I asked the secretary for Mr Pasha she did not correct me nor did the teacher before I started. This was certainly not Mr Pasha who informed me that the school was in fact Fredledwaba Secondary. Plans will have to be put in place to address this miss understanding on my part.
With all demonstrations I usually ask the teacher attending the session to take pictures with a brief of wanting tight photographs of the learners interaction with the equipment. I have no guarantee of the final results but it is interesting to see a different perspective of how the ‘photographer’ views the demonstration. Often they are so absorbed with what is going on around them that they forget to take pictures while others try and emulate ‘professional’ photographers by performing a variety of antics to achieve different poses.
With a little more time in hand I was able to include a few general scenes of the school and its surroundings which tells a different story to the schools so far.
