Potchefstroom Technical High – 17-05-17
Clean Energy Education – Potchefstroom
Another early start with temperatures hovering round the 3 degrees and signs of frost. The entrance to the school is a majestic gate with a long driveway to the main school building. On the right of this I noticed approximately 40 elementary brick braai stands. The purpose of these apparently was to accommodate all the farmers who used to send their children to the school. In more recent times they are used on a number of social gatherings arranged in and around Potchefstroom where the fields and hostels are also used for accommodation.
It would have been great to have attended the assembly but the grounds were very sprawling and the admin buildings barricaded up from a recent fire. The outer perimeter of the school buildings is secured with two metre security fences restricting access to the classrooms.
I was was met by very friendly staff and shown to the hall. Unfortunately there was no sun there so decided to move the desk outside into the quadrangle to accommodate over 250 learners that were expected. The formed a large circle and the session was very engaging with many learners making positive contributions.
