Clean Energy Education – Potchefstroom

I was pleased to notice the number of small churches in the townships which appeared to be quite old. Despite the location the vast majority of community members take a lot of pride in the little that they have.

Lydia arrived at the same time even though I was a little early and introduced me to the staff who had previously identified the area where we were to do the demonstration. This happened to be outside a well equipped computer room including a SMART Interactive Whiteboard. Internet is only accessible in the staffroom and not available to learners and in the classrooms.

This group of learners was a little different in that they actively engaged with the content in a positive way. It is these moments that give me hope for the future and feel that more can and should be done in identifying individuals with talent.

With a few moments to spare I tool time to demonstrate the Raspberry Pi as tool to supplement education by providing an ‘internet experience’ to any WiFi enabled device. Some good ideas were raised and there is a place to fit this device into the education system.
