St Agustine’s 25 May 2017
The trip to Ga-Rankuwa was relatively easy as I assigned the role of navigation to my trusted GPS. On arrival I announced myself to Mr Lawrence, the principal, and in the discussion he hinted at conducting a whole school demonstration. I was concerned until I discovered that this consisted of about 150 learners excluding the Grade 12s, which would not have been an issue.
The learners soon settled into the demonstration where I was surprised to how quickly the wind turbine challenge was solved. The school is a LEAP Mathematics and Science institution which may have had an influence. The discussions with the learners was very positive and they were wiling to engage in all the discussions.
The teachers were very interested in the contents of the presentation and reported that they would be able to refer to the information in their classes. They also should an interest in the Raspberry Pi as I had made extra time available for general discussions with the staff.
